BOOK YOUR CHOCOLATE EXPERIENCE
If you are searching for a chocolate factory in Tasmania that you can actually visit, taste chocolate and meet the people who make it, you will find Federation Chocolate just outside the historic village of Richmond.
Located approximately 25 minutes from Hobart, Federation Chocolate is a small, family-owned Tasmanian chocolate factory where cacao beans are transformed into artisan chocolate on site.
Visitors can taste handcrafted chocolate, discover how chocolate is made, join a guided chocolate experience and even pour and decorate their own chocolate block.

A Chocolate Factory Near Hobart
Federation Chocolate is located at 1314 Richmond Road, Richmond, in Tasmania’s beautiful Coal River Valley.
Our chocolate factory shares its home with Every Man and His Dog Vineyard, giving visitors the unusual opportunity to enjoy chocolate, wine, food and vineyard views in one destination.
We are close enough to Hobart for an easy half-day visit and conveniently located near Richmond Village, Hobart Airport and many of the Coal River Valley’s wineries and food producers.
Whether you are planning a family outing, a weekend away, a food and wine tour or a day trip from Hobart, Federation Chocolate offers a distinctly Tasmanian experience.

Most chocolate begins with cacao beans grown in tropical regions around the world. Those beans must go through a remarkable transformation before they become the smooth chocolate we know and love.
At Federation Chocolate, we make chocolate using our Full Bean Method™. We carefully roast cacao beans before cracking and separating them into cacao nibs. The nibs are then stone-ground with other ingredients for approximately 70 hours, gradually developing the smooth texture and flavour of the finished chocolate.
This small-batch approach gives us control over the entire chocolate-making process, from the cacao bean through to the finished chocolate block.
Our chocolate is palm-oil free, and we source cacao with careful consideration for quality, sustainability and the farmers who grow it.
Join a Tasmanian Chocolate Experience
There is more than one way to experience our chocolate factory.
The Tasmania Chocolate Pour
Pour and decorate your own large Tasmanian-shaped chocolate block using your choice of milk, dark or white chocolate.

During this guided, hands-on experience, you can choose toppings and create a chocolate block that is entirely your own. While your chocolate sets, enjoy a speciality hot chocolate made with chocolate fresh from our vats.
No previous chocolate-making experience is needed. We guide you through each stage, making it an enjoyable activity for couples, families, friends and groups.
Chocolate Factory Tastings
For people who want to understand—and taste—more of the chocolate-making process, our guided tasting experiences take you behind the scenes of our working chocolate factory.
Depending on the experience, you may taste freshly made chocolate directly from our vats, explore different cacao origins, sample new creations and learn how flavour changes throughout the chocolate-making process.
It is an opportunity to experience chocolate while it is being made, rather than simply picking up a finished block from a shop.
Chocolate and Wine Pairing
Chocolate and wine can create some extraordinary flavour combinations.
Federation Chocolate operates alongside Every Man and His Dog Vineyard, allowing us to pair handcrafted chocolate with wines produced from our own vineyard.
During a guided chocolate and wine pairing, you can explore how sweetness, acidity, tannin, texture and aroma interact. It is a relaxed and approachable way to discover both Tasmanian chocolate and cool-climate wine.
Is the Chocolate Factory Suitable for Families?
Yes. Families are welcome at Federation Chocolate, and selected chocolate-making experiences are suitable for children aged eight and over.
Children particularly enjoy pouring and decorating their own chocolate block—and taking their creation home at the end.
Age requirements vary between experiences, and wine-pairing experiences are for adults, so please check the individual experience information before booking.
Private sessions may also be available for families, school groups, celebrations and other groups with particular requirements.
Vegan and Gluten-Free Options
We can cater for many vegan and gluten-free visitors.
Our dark chocolate is made using cacao and vegan-friendly sugar, although cross-contamination information should always be checked by anyone with a serious allergy or medical dietary requirement.
Please let us know about dietary requirements when booking so that we can advise you about the most suitable options.
Gluten Free Pizza and platters are also avaliable daily from Noon to 5pm
Stay for Lunch, Wine or a Chocolate Treat
Your visit does not have to finish when your chocolate experience ends.
You can stay and enjoy estate-grown wine, pizza, a cheese or grazing platter, hot chocolate, coffee and a selection of handcrafted Federation Chocolate products.
Our cellar door has a relaxed country atmosphere with undercover seating, vineyard views and space to slow down and enjoy your visit.
Dogs are also welcome in our outdoor and undercover areas when kept on a lead.
